Natural Hair Growth Tips

Experiencing hair loss after childbirth is a common yet distressing issue for many women. When I faced significant hair thinning following my first pregnancy, I realized that something had to change. By the time I had my second baby, the situation hadn’t improved, leading me to make the tough decision to cut my hair short and start from scratch. This marked the beginning of my deep dive into natural remedies for hair growth, a journey that has not only helped me regain my hair but also taught me valuable lessons about self-care and resilience.

Understanding Hair Loss in Women

Hair loss among women can stem from various factors, each contributing to the weakening of hair follicles and the overall health of the scalp:

Hormonal Changes: Postpartum hair loss is particularly common due to the sudden drop in hormones after childbirth.

Stress: High levels of stress can lead to the disruption of normal hair growth cycles, resulting in noticeable hair loss.

Poor Nutrition: Essential nutrients are crucial for hair strength and growth. Deficiencies in key vitamins and minerals can lead to weakened hair structure.

Inadequate Sleep: Rest is crucial for overall health, and lack of quality sleep can affect hair health.

Low-Quality Hair Care Products: Using hair care products with harsh chemicals can damage the scalp and hair.

Poor Hair Care Practices: Over-styling, frequent use of heat tools, and tight hairstyles can lead to hair breakage and loss.

By addressing these root causes, we can begin to implement strategies that not only minimize hair loss but also promote new, healthy hair growth.

Before diving into the DIY natural hair oil recipe, it’s important to note that you can use any carrier oil that works well for your hair type. Here are some great options:

1. Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Known for its moisturizing properties, it’s great for dry or brittle hair.

2. Castor Oil: This thick oil is perfect for promoting hair growth and increasing thickness.

3. Jojoba Oil: Similar to the natural oil produced by the scalp, it helps balance oil production.

4. Argan Oil: Often used to make hair softer and more manageable, it’s excellent for frizz control.

5. Almond Oil: This lightweight oil is perfect for nourishing and strengthening the hair.

Choose any of these oils as the base for your DIY hair oil blend to customize it according to your hair’s specific needs.

In this DIY hair oil recipe, I’ll be using coconut oil and tea tree oil for their unique benefits:

Coconut Oil: I chose coconut oil because it’s excellent for penetrating the hair shaft to moisturize and condition the hair from within. It also helps reduce protein loss in both damaged and undamaged hair, making it ideal for strengthening and promoting hair health.

Tea Tree Oil: I’m adding tea tree oil due to its antimicrobial properties, which can help keep the scalp free from dandruff and other scalp issues. It’s great for promoting a healthy scalp environment, which is essential for optimal hair growth.

These oils, combined with other ingredients, create a potent mix that nourishes the scalp and fosters healthy hair growth.

DIY Natural Hair Oil Recipe

Creating your own hair oil is a great way to ensure you’re giving your hair natural, nourishing ingredients. Here’s a simple recipe using ingredients known for their hair benefits:

Ingredients:

Coconut oil: A deep moisturizer that strengthens hair.

Rosemary leaves: Stimulates the scalp and promotes hair growth.

Cloves: Known for their antifungal and antibacterial properties, cloves help maintain a healthy scalp, which is essential for hair growth.

Tea tree oil: Cleanses the scalp and has anti-inflammatory properties.

 Instructions:

1. Prepare the Oil Mixture: Mix half a cup of coconut oil with a handful of crushed rosemary leaves and a tablespoon of cloves.(you can use a blender or mortar) Add about ten drops of tea tree oil.

2. Infuse the Oil: Heat the mixture slowly in a double boiler for about 20-30 minutes by filling a larger pot with water and placing a smaller pot  with the mixtures inside to allow the ingredients infuse.

3. Strain and Store: After cooling, strain out the rosemary leaves and cloves, and store the oil in an airtight container. Leave the oil to sit for a few weeks, allowing all the ingredients to fully incorporate.

Hair Growth Tips:

Regular Scalp Massages: Use the oil blend weekly by gently massaging it into your scalp. This helps stimulate blood flow and promote hair growth.

Balanced Diet: Include a variety of proteins, omega-3s, and fresh produce in your diet.

Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water helps keep the hair hydrated from within.

Gentle Styling: Avoid harsh styling techniques and minimize heat exposure.

Quality Sleep: Ensure you get enough restorative sleep every night.

How to Use Your DIY Hair Oil:

1. Overnight Treatment: Apply the oil to your hair before bed, cover it with a cap, and wash it out in the morning for deep nourishment.

2. Pre-wash Treatment: Apply the oil to your hair an hour before you plan to shampoo. This helps protect your hair during the washing process.

3. Regular Use: For best results, apply the oil to your hair at least twice a week. This regular application helps maintain moisture and promote hair health.

This DIY journey has not only helped restore my hair but also empowered me with knowledge and control over what I use on my body.
