At DearAnns, we celebrate women who carry their roles with intention, women who build meaningful work, nurture their homes with care, and stay grounded in their walk with God.
For this month, we are pleased to spotlight Jokotade Shonowo, a portrait photographer, creative entrepreneur, mentor, wife, and mother whose work continues to influence the growing landscape of visual storytelling in Nigeria.
Jokotade did not start her career in the creative sector. She holds a degree in Microbiology, and for a while, her path seemed set in that direction. But the more she engaged with photography, the more she realised she had found a medium that made sense to her, a space where she could express both creativity and purpose. That clarity eventually led to the birth of PoshClick Portraiture, the studio she now leads.
Her work is distinguished by intention. She photographs people with a sensitivity that reflects her belief that every individual carries an inner identity that deserves to be acknowledged. Speaking about the heart behind her portraits, she explains,
“I want women to see all the beauty God has embedded within them. My hope is that each portrait reminds them of who they are in Him.”
It is a philosophy that shapes the way she works and the experience she gives the women who sit in front of her lens.
Outside the studio, Jokotade is deeply invested in teaching and mentoring. Through initiatives like “Beyond the Shutter” and the PoshClick Foundation, she has created avenues for young people and aspiring photographers to gain grounding in both skill and discipline. Her focus is not just on producing creatives, but on shaping individuals who understand the weight of character, responsibility, and the value of their work.
Motherhood forms an important part of her story. As a mother of two, she speaks honestly about the realities of building a career while raising a family.
“I’ve learned to identify what truly needs me and what can be entrusted to others,” she says. “That balance has given me freedom, the space and wings to to birth ideas, grow my business and still be present for the people I love.”
Her approach reflects a woman who understands her seasons and responds to them with intentionality, rather than pressure.
Her faith remains a central thread in her journey. She describes surrender as learning to trust God’s plan over her own, and patience as the quiet phase where growth often happens unnoticed. These lessons, she says, have shaped her both personally and professionally. They reflect in her work ethic, her leadership, and the way she engages with the women and creatives around her.
A significant part of her impact also includes In My Corner, a project birthed during a period of personal reflection in 2019. Recognizing how the support of women had played a major role in her journey, she felt compelled to document and celebrate that kind of sisterhood. The project grew even deeper when she connected with fellow creative, Ivie, in 2021. Together, they brought the idea to life in a way that honored the authenticity of women showing up for one another.
Over the years, Jokotade has been featured in notable publications and recognized for her contribution to portrait photography. Yet she maintains a calm, grounded presence. Her work continues to evolve, but her principles remain steady — clarity, purpose, family, faith, and a deep respect for the people she photographs.
As we celebrate her this month, we honor a woman who embodies balance in a real and practical way: navigating career growth, raising a family, nurturing her faith, and contributing to her community with sincerity.
Congratulations to our DearAnns Woman of the Month, Jokotade Shonowo.
Your journey continues to inspire, and we are proud to celebrate you.
